For refugee families, the trauma from war and forced migration may be compounded by their experiences in Canada. It is not enough for families to arrive here; to be safe and socially connected, they must be welcomed. This workshop identifies issues facing refugee families, and explores different cultural perspectives around parenting. Â Suggestions are also offered on ways to incorporate these insights into participants’ work.
Tamam McCallum, from Turtle House Art/Play Centre, is an immigrant herself and a YWCA Woman of Distinction Award winner for her work with the settlement community. Tamam provides an informative and very current presentation from the 2010 Professional Development Conference for LINC Childminders.
