Welcoming Refugee Families Workshop

For refugee families, the trauma from war and forced migration may be compounded by their experiences in Canada. It is not enough for families to arrive here; to be safe and socially connected, they must be welcomed. This workshop identifies issues facing refugee families, and explores different cultural perspectives around parenting.  Suggestions are also offered on ways to incorporate these insights into participants’ work.

Tamam McCallum, from Turtle House Art/Play Centre, is an immigrant herself and a YWCA Woman of Distinction Award winner for her work with the settlement community. Tamam provides an informative and very current presentation from the 2010 Professional Development Conference for LINC Childminders.
