Terrific Toddlers

The third of four workshops from the 2011 Professional Development Conference for LINC Childminders. This workshop designed for caregivers working with children ages 18-36 months, this workshop will provide an overview of the developmental, social and emotional characteristics of this age group. Amy McKague from kidsLINK also presents the use of Authentic Choices as a strategy to support toddlers' growth and development, with an emphasis on nurturing their sense of autonomy and independence.


Meeting the Distinctive Needs of Newcomer Children in Childminding Settings

Here is the second of four workshops from the 2011 Professional Development Conference for LINC Childminders. Judith A. Colbert, PhD. supports caregivers by exploring the distinctive needs of young newcomer children. She raises issues associated with identifying and meeting the needs of young newcomers, distinguishing between needs that require a better understanding of culture and settlement issues, and needs arising from disabilities or conditions that call for specialized intervention.


Mentoring for Personal and Professional Growth with Glory Ressler

Glory Ressler, from Mentoring Pairs for Child Care project, facilitates a fun and informative exploration of what mentoring is, and ways to apply mentoring.

The Best Start Resource Centre offers multilingual resources for parents in their home language. Languages available include: Arabic, Filipino, Hindi, Punjabi, Spanish, Simplified Chinese, Tamil and Urdu. The resource “You and your baby…” is also available in two Aboriginal languages. You can download the resources online at: https://resources.beststart.org/product-category/resources/languages-other-than-english-and-french/ Programs can also order print versions of these resources in languages other than English and French. The Best Start Resource Centre will consider special requests from registered charitable organizations who may have funding limitations.

Equitas is an International Centre for Human Rights Education, and they’ve developed a toolkit that helps promote human rights, non discrimination and peaceful conflict resolution within non-formal education programs for children. By encouraging acceptance of differences, the Play It Fair! Program is equipping children and youth to work together to solve conflicts and participate in the diverse communities in which they live.
