Child Care Model Overview

News: The New Child Care Model

People have been asking us, “What happened to the new Child Care Model?”

Well, we reviewed all your feedback, completed the model and our recommendations, and sent everything on to CIC.

We couldn’t have done it without you!

Your guidance helped us create a model that will be flexible and responsive to the real needs of staff working with newcomer children and their families.

Organizations funded by CIC for child care supports may have three options:

  • CONTINUING Care is designed to support programs such as LINC that have the same children attend on a daily basis. This care expects that the children will attend daily and have time to develop a relationship with the caregivers and understand the routines of the program. Continuing Care operates in one location
  • COMBINED Care is designed to support organizations that offer multiple services in one location. It would benefit programs such as LINC who have children attend on a daily basis and programs whose parents require the care for a few hours or days such as JSW. This care would provide those children who are joining the continuing care children with an approach that recognizes their needs based on the short time they will be together. Combined care operates in one location.
  • OCCASIONAL Care is designed for programs that are offered for short periods of time. It would benefit programs such as SWIS and HOST who need care for a few hours while parents attend workshop etc. The children receive care that is focused on safety and providing activities to keep them interested. Occasional Care could be provided in one dedicated location or in multiple locations throughout the community.

Yes, this means that you can finally provide care to children with parents in different programs at a single child care location!

It also means that:

  • All parents participating in CIC-funded services have access to child care (no more LINC-only childminding or ISAP-only Occasional Child Care)
  • All CIC-funded programs have access to child care supports
  • There is only one set of requirements to follow (simplified requirements and paperwork, no more confusion about which set of rules apply)

We will update further as soon as we have more news!
